Sons of Man

Sons of Man

Linked by blood and common plan,
Two, these greatest sons of man*,
The first came forth to till the land,
The Word sown next, The Lord’s own hand.
~ D.F.

*Jesus and his older cousin, John the Baptist:

*************
“This is the one about whom scripture says: ‘Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, he will prepare your way before you.’

I tell you, among those born of women, no one is greater than John; yet the least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”
~ Luke 7:27-28

Anawim Tree

Anawim Tree

Waif of a tree, bare, unadorned,
Planted in earth, dry and worn,
Still its leaves glisten, in golden light,
Kissed by His sun, its soul burns bright.
~ D.F.

*************
Anawim (Hebrew, pronounced ann-a-weem) refers to the poor who keep faith in God even in hard times.

Live Bright

Live Bright

What will your Christmas be like,
When at last the tree turns to dry?
Beyond plain sight, the spirit hides,
Give to the poor, those lonely inside.
This task attend, on this longest night,
And while it must die,
Your tree lives bright.
~ D.F.

Big Night

Big Night

Host of angels in garments white,
The heavens awake, dazzling light.
Focus now, pray, get the notes right,
A few days more, the LORD’s big night!
~ D.F.

*************
And suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying:

“Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favour rests.”
~ Luke 2:13-14

Legion

Legion

The Devil’s brood, his demons vile,
Lies abound, dark, full of guile.
Of this wretched company, stern warning take.
Their aim, just one, to drown your soul in hate.
~ D.F.

*************
“Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” He replied, “Legion,” because many demons had entered him.”
~ Luke 8:30

Job

Job

Keep faith, the die is yet cast,
His mercies to the end, will last.
Time and misery, a wedge driven deep,
But His love is steadfast, your soul to keep.
~ D.F.

*************

“Surely then you may lift up your face in innocence; you may stand firm and unafraid.

For then you shall forget your misery, like water that has ebbed away you shall regard it.

Then your life shall be brighter than the noonday; its gloom shall become like the morning”
~ Job 11:15-17
