Bending the Law

Bending the Law

Has the law demanding “an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth” ever brought about a peaceful and lasting solution to any of the woes in this world?

Is it not rather in bending to mercy and forgiveness, that the law finds its true fulfilment and for man, a realisation of his nobler self?

The placard reads “Please do not lean cycles against this wall”. Cambridge, UK

“If you, LORD, keep account of sins,
Lord, who can stand?

But with you is forgiveness and
so you are revered.”
~ Psalm 130:3-4

Nuts and Bolts

Nuts and Bolts

Ever adept, man has learnt to manipulate the physical world, even the nuts and bolts that hold the double helix of his own DNA together.

But what are the nuts and bolts needed to restore his soul, and indeed to make it one in harmony with his body?

What are these essentials in the spiritual toolbox?

• Prayer and Almsgiving •

“Pray without ceasing.”
~ 1 Thessalonians 5:17

“… give alms, and behold, everything will be clean for you.”
~ Luke 11:41

“But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right is doing, so that your almsgiving may be secret.
And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.”
~ Matthew 6:3-4

Staying Afloat

Staying Afloat

Living is far from having all provisions stocked and ready in order to stay afloat in both calm and choppy waters.

Real life can only be experienced by accepting the changes in sea and weather conditions, improvising, and having a patient trust in His merciful providence.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?”

~ Matthew 6:25

To the Heavens

Citizen of Heaven

The sky may be the limit but surely, that is short of inspiring when one is a citizen of heaven.

“But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body …”

~ Philippians 3:20-21

Fail Grade

Fail Grade

An education that leads to the betterment of one’s lot in life but without thought and service to the poor and marginalised in society is misguided, irresponsible and an abject failure.

About the photo: This image of King’s College, Cambridge University is decidedly two-dimensional, lacking the perception of depth due to a photographic shift tilt effect.

Take That Dive

Dive Right In

Be brave and dive into the unknown, safe in the knowledge that God is present even in the uttermost parts of the earth.

“As long as the understanding finds no trouble or difficulty and is at ease, that is a sign that one’s Faith has not gone far enough.”

Future Glory

Has the tree surgeon finally overdone it?

This tree has lost its limbs and in the process, has been shorn of all its former leafy glory.

But like our spirit which is sometimes humiliated and painfully pruned by trials and challenges, there is always hope for a future glory that outshines the present.

Just so long as we stay rooted to life…

“Was it not necessary that the Messiah should suffer these things and enter into his glory?”
~ Luke 24:26

“To suffer, not to die.”
~ St Magdalene de Pazzi

Concrete and Steel

Man of Steel ...

Do not mistaken! The substance of your being is not concrete and steel so that your primal inclination should be to such things.

Rather, you were fashioned from the rich living earth by God himself, to be both its responsible stewart and grateful beneficiary.
