Burning Bush

Burning Bush

Quiet, burning, mysterious light,
Eerie glow, yet comforting sight.
Hearts a kindled, fears, respite,
Rising flames, dark mortal night.
~ D.F.

“Were not our hearts burning within us…”
~ Luke 24:32

Martyr

Martyr

Firm and quiet spirit, he thirsts for life divine,
Biding through harsh winter, his soul by cold, refine.
Stripped, hurt and suffering, yet new leaves sprout so fine,
Deeper the pain and insult, still greater, his glory shines.
~ D.F.

*************
“Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you [falsely] because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven. Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”
~ Matthew 5:11-12

Half Measure

Half Measure

Shafts of sunlight gather, welcome in the morn,
Blessings for the asking, promise of new dawn.
Worries that have taunted you, upon them heap your scorn,
Radiance, now half measure, to fullness by grace, reborn.
~ D.F.

Slip

Slip

Trawling the waters, night without sleep,
Whither the harvest, catch from the deep?
Alas, faith in our net, wrongly did keep,
Strain but a little! The prize, away slips.
~ D.F.

Gordian Knots

Gordian Knots

Trudging high mountains to the valleys, dark below,
Where breath grows thin and courage flees to cold,
Draw warmly then to our sweet Lord, beware to lose Him not,
Grasp that hand with sure faith!
He will loosen life’s Gordian knots.
~ D.F.

Abram

Abram

Swirling winds and the endless floor,
Yahweh beckons,”Come, follow my call.”
Old and familiar, regard them, no more,
Stars and sand, your faith to the fore.
~ D.F.
