Lisping in the wind, the sound of silent prayer,
Ferrying her tears, seeking the One who cares.
In that quiet hideaway, the trials of life to spare,
A sigh, the final resting, at last, all things made fair.
Incense arising, rafting through air,
Prayer on a wing, searching for nest.
Keep faith, child, let’s not despair,
Home at last, sweet succour and rest.
Never His intent, that our toil should be in vain,
Rather to enjoy, the fruits, the sun and rain.
Then why the burden heavy, life alas so grey,
Answer oft forgotten: Prayer plus work is play.
Do not be disheartened,
Saying, “My voice is small”,
He heeds your softest whisper,
And for you, His graces pour.
How shall we weather the storm of judgement turning our way?
Surely, it must be with the deep roots of humble prayer and willing sacrifice that will prevent us from toppling over, rather than the self-glorifying acts all done in the name of charity.
Ever adept, man has learnt to manipulate the physical world, even the nuts and bolts that hold the double helix of his own DNA together.
But what are the nuts and bolts needed to restore his soul, and indeed to make it one in harmony with his body?
What are these essentials in the spiritual toolbox?
• Prayer and Almsgiving •
“Pray without ceasing.”
~ 1 Thessalonians 5:17
“… give alms, and behold, everything will be clean for you.”
~ Luke 11:41
“But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right is doing, so that your almsgiving may be secret.
And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.”
~ Matthew 6:3-4
